These trees have been gleaned from tree removal projects in Bulgaria, Eastern Europe, according to sustainable felling planned years ahead, so none of the trees we use are cut down for the purpose of making our furniture.
The Process: First, we air-dry the pieces very well. Then, we hand cut and naturally burn it in a desired shape. After several hours of burning it becomes lighter but strong enough. Then level, smooth, sand and polish the sides and the top, leaving the individual character of each piece intact. We impregnate and finish the stumps with several coats of a water-based products that brings out their beauty and adds protection. All charred parts are sealed and strengthened with coats of finish, to ensure that nothing peels off or leave a stain. The bottom part of the trunk is specially treated to protect the surface you put it on. NO harsh toxic chemicals have been applied in order to maintain the environmentally friendly quality and natural freshness of the wood.
The pieces show some natural cracks and holes. As with any furniture of this kind, cracks and splitting are possible as the wood continues to dry. This is a normal process as the wood fully dries out but it adds to the personality of each one of a kind stump.
Due to the natural wood used, no two pieces are alike. These photos represent the shape and size of the tree trunks you will receive. Every tree stump may have various random naturally occurring cracks, knots and color variations.
